Cwmllynfell's fourth away league game on the trot ended in a heavy defeat by Tondu but the final score line does not reflect the game and after an awful start the blues fought back to actually outscore the home side over the last 50 minutes of the match
Tondu who paid respects with a moving minutes silence before the start to thier no7 who died in in tragic cirmcustances over the Chirstmas break raced into the lead fired on by emotion and were 33 points up within the first half hour as Cwm had no answer to the pace and drive of the home side forwards
Cwm were starved of the ball and what scraps were gained were wasted by aimless kicks and dropped passes
Cwm then somehow rallied through second row Richard Deakin.s one man efforts in the loose aided by some fine defensive kicking by full back Peter Thomas
Cwm finally won a line out on the half way and Gareth Drewson was worked free to score wide out - Thomas kicked the extras from the touchline and the half ended 33-07 to the Waterwheelers .
Tondu started the second half well and scored in the frist movement but Cwm again raliied and when Thomas moved to no 10 started to control matters especially after capt A Sturl came on topartner him at no9 . Cwm created a number of chances against what was becominga a tired and indiscpiined Tondu side and Nic Diajanovic who had much more space to run after being moved to centre raced over for a try , again converted superbly by Thomas
Cwm pressed in the last 10 minutes and could have scored at least twice more but often the wrong options and angles were taken allowing a desperate defence to hold out
A heavy defeat - but on the positive side Cwm never gave up and improved as the game went on - so credit to the side for keeping together - but the lacklustre way the team started the game will need to be worked on in training
Final Score Tondu 40 - Cwm 14
