CWM,S WINGMEN DESTROY MAESTEG AT THE OLD PARISH
There is no answer to pace out wide and with Cwms young wingers owen James and Bowdy Davies in fine form running in five tries between them Cwmllynfell returned from the Llynfi Valley with the pre requisite bonus point victory.
It was however the hosts who started on fire and a 60 yard move saw full back Adam Wellington scoot over for a converted score. Cwm playing into a strong wind hit back with an unconverted try from Bowdy Davies before the Old Parish crossed via Scott Hicks to give them a 12-5 lead on the half hour.
The away side then upped their game and a strong running try from industrious flanker Daniel Jones and a more subtle effort from full back Anthony Rees converted by Craig Jones saw the away side lead 17-12 at the interval.
Maesteg now playing into the elements again started strongly but after resilient defence Cwm took control and a brace of tries from young wing Owen James gave them the try bonus point before Bowdy Davies on the other flank also added a brace to give him a fine hat trick. Craig Jones added a conversion to give the Blue and Blacks a 39-12 win.
On reflection Maesteg certainly gave Cwm a much better game than the corresponding home game and for rugby it was good to see them become competative again but Cwm were just to good in the end
- and over the two games wing owen James notched up a remarkable 9trys and 3 conversions to give an individaul tally of 51 pts !- must be a club record for Cwm and perhaps even the league??
Next week a trip to the Gwendraeth Valley to take on old foes Tumble in the Swalec as we take a respite from the league.but --Tumble in the Cup never an easy place to go at any time - let alone january !!!
Final Score Maesteg 12 Cwmllynfell 39
